It is a story about an old Cuban angler and his three-day fight with a mammoth Marlin. Using three conspicuous topics; fellowship, valiance, and Christianity; the Old Man and the Sea endeavors to show significant life exercises to the peruser. The relationship between the elderly person and the kid is presented right off the bat in the story. They are far-fetched colleagues; one is old and the other youthful, yet they share an insuperable measure of regard and reliability for one another. Santiago doesn't treat Manolin as a little fellow yet rather as an equivalent. Age isn't a factor in their relationship. Manolin doesn't go about as a little youngster; he is full grown and delicate to Santiago s sentiments. He even proposals to conflict with his parent s wishes and go with Santiago on his angling trips. Santiago is seen as an pariah in his town since he has not gotten any fish for more than eighty-four days and is in this way unfortunate . In any case Manolin is faithful to Santiago and in any event, when his folks disallow him he needs to support his companion. Their discussions are agreeable, similar to that of two companions who have known each other for their entire lives. At the point when they talk it is for the most part about baseball or angling, the two things they share most for all intents and purpose. Their preferred group is the Yankees and Santiago never loses confidence in them in any event, when the headliner, Joe DiMaggio is harmed with a heel prod. Along these lines Santiago not just instructs Manolin about angling yet in addition about significant attributes, for example, confidence. In the story Santiago s boldness is fantastic however it isn't until he snares the extraordinary fish that we genuinely observe his valor and tirelessness. Through Santiago s activities Hemingway shows the peruser fortitude and steadiness in the face of difficulty. He exhibits that in any event, when everything is lost and appears to be sad a adamant heart and confidence will defeat anything. Santiago had lost his luckiness what's more, along these lines the regard of his town. Through the portrayal of his lodge we additionally speculate that Santiago is a single man. In spite of the fact that Santiago has had numerous inconveniences he endures. He has confidence in Manolin, in the Yankees, in Joe DiMaggio, and above all in himself. This is maybe his most prominent characteristic in light of the fact that without it he could never have had the solidarity to drive forward also, rout the goliath Marlin. Confidence isn't the main thing that drives his determination. Santiago additionally draws upon his past triumphs for quality. After he snared the Marlin he every now and again reviewed his fight with a local in what he called the hand game. It was not only an arm wrestling triumph for him it was a token of his energetic days. His memories of this occasion generally continued a most loved dream of his wherein he saw numerous lions on a quiet shore. These lions spoke to him when he was youthful and solid and could beat any challenge. In spite of the fact that he was an elderly person and his body was not, at this point like it used to be his heart was as yet incredible and he in the end vanquished the Marlin. Santiago s diligence and dauntlessness are additionally represented when he attempts to fend off the sharks. He was an angler for his entire life and along these lines he realized that the destiny of his catch was inescapable yet he persevered to battle the sharks. The fight among him and the sharks was about standards not a minor fish. Santiago was still an extraordinary warrior on a basic level and warriors battle until the end. One of the most noteworthy and most clear imageries in the story is Christianity. From the start of the story the peruser is indicated a one of a kind connection between Santiago and Manolin. Their relationship matches that of Christ and his supporters. Manolin is Santiago s follower and Santiago instructs Manolin about angling and life. Probably the best exercise that Santiago gives is that of a basic confidence. Have confidence in the Yankees my child. This kind of confidence mirrors the fundamental standards of Christianity. Hemingway s depiction of Santiago further shows Christian imagery. Hemingway gives a reference to the nail-penetrated hands of Christ by expressing that Santiago s hands had profound wrinkled scars. Hemingway likewise matches Santiago s enduring to that of Christ by expressing that he settled K against the wood and took his shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-13621586046493643642020-07-15T23:48:00.001-07:002020-07-15T23:48:03.128-07:00Top Tips how to Survive with bad sleepTop Tips how to Survive with bad sleep Have to Burn the Midnight Oil? It is a Filipino-American church thatââ¬â¢s mission and vision is ââ¬Å"to emphasize that every member develop a daily personal devotional liveâ⬠¦to provide, through corporate worship, an uplifting, inspiring experienceâ⬠¦to mentor and provide training for leadershipâ⬠¦to enable all members to engage in active involvementâ⬠¦to establish a communication network which will recruit students with a Filipino heritageâ⬠¦and to reach out with the love of Jesus Christ to meet the needs of Filipinos and other people in the community.â⬠This church grew from a desire by members to form a Filipino fellowship that provided a dynamicâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He has an incredibly close, personal touch, yet, at the same time is naturally more quiet and withdrawing. Analysis of Leadership Dynamics Pastor Xââ¬â¢s leadership theory is clearly a bottom-up approach; he avoids wrangling the conversation unfairly to his perspective, instead, he identifies himself as a component of the process, not the process itself. This instills in the members a trust in him that is remarkably deep. He also tends to seek out members for services that they provide (i.e. medical) in order that he can relate to them on a personal while simultaneously on a spiritual level. As I pointed out above, he empowers his members by giving them opportunities and allowing them to experiment, with the promise that he will be there to provide support if problems explode. However, this model allows problems to be resolved quickly and quietly and not spiral rapidly out of control. He averts empowering the members in the way of resourcesââ¬âwhat I am alluding to is that he is willing to acquire resources when needed, yet avoids seeking them out himself. He feels that it is best for individual leaders of departments to determine these decisions. His relationship with the church is uncommonly positive, in spite of a few differences. For example, during one nominating committee it was determined by the Filipino delegation, which is the vast majority of the church, that the number Caucasians and African-Americans who held leadership positions was rife and shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-20110912573152218532020-05-06T23:23:00.001-07:002020-05-06T23:23:17.741-07:00Fair Value Accounting Within Financial Crisis Essay Abstract Historically ,it is seen that there are numerous number of disputes in the field of financial reporting among different professionals, regulators and theoretitions .most of these disputes are related to the valuation of financial reporting components.the current curve in the progress of valuation is the push for and against the fair value approach.the purpose of this research is to examine the arguments on the use of fair value accounting and to identify the issues related to implementation of fair value accounting standards. The above quote from our theory text describes the feeling of not belonging somewhere due to an identity crisis. This crisis was described as coming from the fact that one was not from a certain region, or may not ââ¬Å"belongâ⬠to the group of that particular region. For example, I may be seen as odd or not belonging in a region full of white Irishmen and they would make it known I donââ¬â¢t belong in these said ââ¬Å"unflatteringâ⬠ways. 1c. In the novel Jasmine, she is continuously moving and suffering because of this identity crisis tied to her constant migration. For example, when Jyotiââ¬â¢s first husband is killed she does not do the traditional burning of her own body with her husband; but she moves to Florida. During her travels and attempts to obtain citizenship in America, Jyoti endures the horrible conditions that come with illegal immigration; For example, secrecy, hunger, rape, and even murder. All of this because she ââ¬Ëisnââ¬â¢tââ¬â¢ ofââ¬â¢ this nationâ⬠¦? The text says, ââ¬Å"I wanted to become the person they thought they saw: humorous, intelligent, refined, affectionate. Not illegal, not murderer, not widowed, raped, destitute, fearful. In Flushing, I had lived defensively in the midst of documented rectitude. I did not want to live legally if it also meant living like a refugee. â⬠(Jasmine, p. 171) 2a. ââ¬Å"In this section, we shall consider the extent to which Western feminist discourses are able to address the double colonization of women living in once-colonised societies and in Western locationsâ⬠¦John Thieme has explained that ââ¬ËWestern feminist writers and theorists have frequently seen parallels between their struggles and those of post-colonial women and have particularly identified with women who suffer ââ¬Å"double colonizationâ⬠(BP, p. 06) 2b. The above quote describes the relationship between ââ¬Å"first worldâ⬠and ââ¬Å"third worldâ⬠women. Of course, third world countries are those that exist below the poverty line and struggle to survive. Theime says that feminist writers often see similarities between the lives of their subjects as well as their own. 2c. I believ e the entire novel ââ¬Å"Jasmineâ⬠is a prime example of the relationship described above; how feminist writers connect with their subjects and audiences due to ââ¬Å"double colonizationâ⬠. In our novel, Mukherjee writes about the life story of Jyoti and notices similarities in their lives, not because they have the same exact life story, but because of their struggles as women in society. For instance, Jyoti took control of her own life and created her own destiny (despite starting over several times); also because she is a woman and isnââ¬â¢t expected to have much control over her own life. This is also shown in other novels weââ¬â¢ve read. 3a. For Bhabha and Spivak identity is a discursive product. Second, because subjectivity is discursively produced, it is possible for it to be remade and remodeled in new and innovative ways ââ¬â hence his attention to the processes of ââ¬Ëarticulationââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëelaborationââ¬â¢ in the quotation. The border is a place of possibility and agency for new concepts, new narratives, new ideas. Third, the new ââ¬Ësignsââ¬â¢ of identity which are possible impact upon both individuals and groups. â⬠(BP, p. 252) 3bc. The above quote speaks about the crossing of physical borders and how they coincide with the crossing of imaginary borders within oneself. For instance, when a person moves from one geographical location to another, they seem to move from one persona to another. This was DEFINITELY seen throughout the novel Jasmine. Just about anywhere you go to eat, chicken wings are on the menu. But what happens in the month of September that causes chicken wing purchases to increase? The answer is simple: football. Easy to eat while watching a game, wings have become a staple in the restaurant/football world. During the month of September, when the NFL begins its season, people race to bars and restaurants to get wings, and watch some football. Popularity for wings soars during football season, as wing purchases increase from about 35% to 50%, according to several Long Island wings establishments. This demand for wings has caused the price of whole-sale chickens to increase to $2.50 a pound, which is nearly double what it cost 12 years ago. With more and more people offering wings as an option on their menu and the increasing demand, large wing distributors have been forced to offer more locations where their business can thrive. For example, the number of Buffalo Wild Wings locations has nearly tripled in the past 10 years. Another example brings us to Wingstop , who have doubled their locations in the last 10 years as well. Across Long Island, wing businesses thrive this time of year. The owner of two Wing Zone locations in East Meadow and Bellmore, Matthew Licht, says that he sees a 5% bump in business once football season starts. He even goes on to say that when the local teams are doing well, business goes up even more. However, in 2005, he learned a lesson. During his Super Bowl as an owner that year, Licht says he was overwhelmed by orders and the day was a disaster. He had to take to the local newspaper and took up a full-page advertisement apologizing to his customers. With his lesson learned, during the most recent Super Bowl, his two stores selling more than $25,000 in Bellmore, and more than $20,000 in East Meadow. Altogether, that's about 55,000 chicken wings. Another profitable wing business is Wing Over Farmingdale. Owner Jason Oliver said he sold around 45,000 bone-in wings and about 2,000 POUNDS of boneless wings during the last Super Bowl. The funny thing about this is that Oliver only takes pre-orders for the Super Bowl, and he runs out 24 hours in advance. He has also said that internet-delivery companies, like GrubHub for example, have helped boost his business 5% over the past two years. During football weekends, Oliver said that sales of wings go up to 45-50%. Almost all of these owners agree that diversity in the menu is a necessity. They need to what sells, what doesn't, and continue working from there, just like any other business. Some restaurants offer anywhere from 10-20 different sauces. Some owners even go as far as to putting their wing sauces on different menu options, like burgers or salads. Owners and customers agree on something too: wings are easy to eat while watching the game, and they go perfect with beer. They complement each other. Jason Oliver states "It's a party favorite and nothing goes better with beer than chicken wings." Another large reason all these people are rushing to restaurants would be the giant TV's they show the games on. Some people may not have the TV's these bars have, so watching the game that way is a type of experience for them. Wings are a staple at nearly any restaurant you go to, especially during football season. It's clear that football and chicken wings go hand in hand. Not only are they easy to eat during the game, but it makes the game more enjoyable being able to pig out on wings. Going out, getting food and enjoying a game is definitely an experience for any football fan. The rise in wing sales during this time of year should come as no surprise. shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-26304888470634710572020-03-18T02:21:00.001-07:002020-03-18T02:21:03.118-07:00How Teachers Can Achieve HappinessHow Teachers Can Achieve Happiness The stereotype around elementary school teachers is that they are always peppy and happy and full of life. While this may hold true for some elementary school teachers, it sure does not for all teachers. As you know, having a job in the teaching profession can be quite challenging. Teachers have a lot of pressure on them. Not only do they have to learn and teach the common core standards to students, but they also have the challenging job of making sure that their students are ready to be productive citizens once they get out of school. With all of this pressure, along with the responsibilities ofà lesson planning, grading, and discipline, the job can sometimes take a toll on any teacher, no matter how peppy their nature. To help relieve some of these pressures, use these tips on a daily basis to help you deal and, hopefully, bring some joy to your life.à 1. Take Time for Yourself One of the best ways that you can achieve happiness is to take time for yourself. Teaching is a very selfless profession and sometimes you just need to take a moment and do something for yourself. Teachers spend so much of their free time scouring the internet looking for effective lesson plans or grading papers, that they sometimes end up neglecting their personal needs. Set aside one day of the week for lesson planning or grading, and set aside another day for yourself. Take an art class, go shopping with a friend, or try that yoga class that your friends are always trying to get you to go to.à 2. Make Your Choices Wisely According to Harry K. Wong in the book ââ¬Å"How to Be an Effective Teacherâ⬠the way a person chooses to behave (as well as their reactions) will dictate what their life will be like. He says that their are three categories of behavior that people can exhibit, they are protective behaviors, maintenance behaviors, and enhancement behaviors. Here are examples of each behavior. Protective Behavior ââ¬âThese are people who are full of excuses, who complain a lot, and are good at justifying their behavior. You probably always see them in the teachersââ¬â¢ lounge complaining about everything and anything that is happening in their classroom as well as at the school. Maintenance Behavior ââ¬â These are the people who are very hardworking and who spend a lot of time wishing (I wish I won the lottery, I wish I had a bigger classroom). They tend to get along well with others, and donââ¬â¢t complain or put people down in the teachersââ¬â¢ lounge. They are concerned with their own individual survival, health, and safety. Enhancement Behavior ââ¬âThese individuals enjoy active learning and participating in groups. They go to every teacher conference and meeting, and are known around the school as a leader. Now that you know the three types of behavior, which category do you fall into? Which type of teacher do you want to be? The way that you decide to act can greatly increase or decrease your overall happiness and well-being. 3. Lower Your Expectations Let go of the expectation that every lesson has to go exactly as planned. As a teacher, you will always have misses along with the hits. If your lesson was a flop, try to think of it as a learning experience.à Just as you teach your students that they can learn from their mistakes, so can you. Lower your expectations and you will find that you will be much happier. 4. Do Not Compare Yourself to Anyone One of the many problems with social media is the ease with which people can present their lives in any way they wish. As a result, people tend to only portray the version of themselves and their life that they want othersà to see. If you are scrolling down your Facebook news feed you may see many teachers that look like they have it all together, which can be quite intimidating and result in feelings of inadequacy. Compare yourself to no one. Itââ¬â¢s hard not to compare yourself to others when we have Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest in our lives. But just remember that it probably takes some of these teachers hours to create the perfect-looking lesson. Do your best and try to be satisfied with the results.à 5. Dress for Success Never underestimate the power of a nice outfit. à While dressing up to teach a bunch of elementary students may seem like a bad idea, research shows that it can actually make you feel happier. So the next morning that you want an instant pick-me-up, try wearing your favorite outfit to school. 6. Fake it Weve all heard the expression, Fake it til you make it. Turns out, it might actually work. Some studies that show if you smile when you are unhappy, you can trick your brain into feeling like you are happy. The next time your students are driving you crazy, try smiling- it might just turn your mood around. 7. Socialize with Friends and Colleagues Do you find that you tend to be alone a lot when you are feeling unhappy? Studies found that the more time unhappy people spent socializing with others, the better that they felt. If youââ¬â¢re spending a lot of time by yourself, try getting out and socializing with your friends or colleagues. Go eat lunch in the faculty lounge instead of your classroom, or go for that drink after school with your friends.à 8. Pay it Forward There have been so many studies conducted that show that the more that you do for others, the better you feel about yourself. The sheer act of doing a good deed can make a huge impact on your self-esteem, as well as your happiness. The next time that you are feeling down, try doing something nice for someone else. Even if its just holding the door open for a stranger or making extra photocopies for your colleague, paying it forward can really improve your mood. 9. Listen to Musicà Studies find that focused listening to music that is upbeat, or even just reading lyrics that are positive, can improve your mood.à Classical music is also said to have a mood-boosting effect on people. So the next time youââ¬â¢re sitting in your classroom and are in need of a pick-me-up, turn on some upbeat or classical music. Not only will it help to boost your mood, it will help your students moods as well. à à 10. Express Gratitude A lot of us spend a lot of our time focusing on what we dont have, rather than focusing our time on what we do have. When we do this, it can make you feel sad and unhappy. Try expressing gratitude and focusing all of your attention on the positive things that you have in your life. Think about what is going right in your life, and all of things that you are grateful for. Each morning before your toes even hit the ground, say three things that you are grateful for. Here are a few examples of what you can do each morning to express gratitude. Today I am grateful for: My health and the health of my familyThat I have food, clothes and a roof over my headThat I have a wonderful job that helps me provide for my family You have the ability to control how you feel. If you wake up feeling unhappy then you have the ability to change that. Use these ten tips and practice them daily. With practice, you can form lifelong habits that can increase your overall happiness. shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-30885048782772907792020-03-01T18:06:00.001-08:002020-03-01T18:06:03.294-08:00Edward Craven Walker and the History of Lava LampsEdward Craven Walker and the History of Lava Lamps Singapore-born inventor Edward Craven Walker was having a pint in post WWII England. The pubs decor included a fascinating lamp, which Craven Walker described as a contraption made out of a cocktail shaker, old tins and things. It was to become the starting point and inspiration for Craven Walkers design. Edward Craven Walker Designs the Modern Lava Lamp The liquid-filled inventor proceeded to purchase the equally liquid-filled lamp, whose creator (Mr. Dunnett) Walker later discovered had died. Walker became determined to make a better version of the novelty item and spent the next decade and a half doing so (in between running an international house-swap agency and making films about nudism.) Walker worked on improving the lamp with his company, the Crestworth Company of Dorset, England. Initially local retail merchants thought his lamps were ugly and disgusting. Luckily, for Craven Walker the Psychedelic Movement and the Love Generation came to dominate 60s merchandising in Great Britain and sales of the lava lamp soared. It was the perfect light for modern times, Walker declared: If you buy my lamp, you wont need to buy drugs. The Lava Lamp's Secret Recipe Edward Craven Walker perfected a secret Lava recipe of oil, wax, and other solids. The original model had a large gold base with tiny holes to simulate starlight, and a 52 oz globe that contained red or white Lava and yellow or blue liquid. He marketed the lamp in Europe under the name of Astro Lamp. Two American entrepreneurs saw the lava lamp displayed at a German trade show and bought the rights to manufacture the lava lamp in North America under the name Lava Lite Lamp. Lava Lamp Sales and Success Before selling his company, sales of the lamps had exceeded seven million units. Today with over 400,000 lava lamps made each year, the Lava Lamp is enjoying a comeback. Craven Walkers originalà company, the Crestworth Company, changed names to Mathmos in 1995 (a reference to the bubbling force in Barbarella.) They still manufacture the Astro, Astro Baby, and more Lava Lamps in their original home of Poole, Dorset, UK. How the Basic Lava Lamp Works Base: Holds a 40 watt frosted appliance light bulb inside a reflecting cone. This cone rests on a second cone, which houses the light bulb socket and electrical cord connection. The electrical cord has a small in-line switch on it and a standard US 120v plug. Lamp: A glass container containing two fluids, called water and lava, both trade secrets. A metal cap seals the top of the lamp. There is a small amount of air at the very top of the lamp. Loose at the bottom of the lamp is a small coil of wire called the element. Top Cap: A small plastic cover over the top of the lamp which serves to both hide the lamps inner cap and the waterline. When turned off and cold, the lava is a hard lump at the bottom of the glass container and can barely be seen. The light bulb, when turned on, heats both the element and the lava. The lava expands with heat, becomes less dense than the water, and rises to the top. Away from the heat, the lava cools and becomes denser than the water and falls. The lava at the bottom reheats and begins to rise all over again and as long as the lamp is on, the lava keeps flowing in pleasing up-and-down waves. Initially lamps require a warm-up period of about 30 minutes to melt the lava before going into full motion. Todays modern lava lamps use Borosilicate glass that can withstand quick extremes in temperature. shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-74644304763298982892020-02-14T09:33:00.001-08:002020-02-14T09:33:03.736-08:00Globalization in China as it relates to MacroEconomics EssayGlobalization in China as it relates to MacroEconomics - Essay Example (U.S. Commercial Service) China has been doing an admirable job of attracting foreign direct Investment (FDI), which has made it a powerful force to reckon with in the World Economic scene. In 2004, China kept its place as one of the top two destinations in the world of FDI adding $64 billion. Over $564 billion of FDI has been invested in China since it opened to the world in 1979.Executives overwhelmingly consider China to be the undisputed top FDI destination for the third year in a row in 2004. About 40% of global investors expressed a more positive outlook on China's economy, four times the number of executives who had a dimmer view of China. The path to economic liberalization has been a difficult but fruitful one for China. It has triumphed due to its determination and commitment to open up its markets to foreign investors. A Business Week article in 2001 stated that "after two decades of steady but halting reforms, Beijing is now racing to dismantle the last vestiges of a command economy". Let us trace the FDI history in China. Since late 1978, China has carried out massive economic reforms in an effort to restructure its economy to be more market oriented. FDI was one of the primary goals of its reforms. The government has over the years slowly liberalized the restrictions on FDI to gain technology transfer, modern management skills and foreign exchange. The government's first move to entice FDI was taken in 1979 with the Equity Joint Venture Law. This law allowed the legal entry of FDI and provided a statutory basis for the establishment of joint ventures in China. But Investment was allowed in only designated Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and was encouraged via tax incentives. As investments grew, additional laws were required. In 1983 another law was issued which provided greater details on all joint ventures in FDI. The government also expanded the SEZs in 1984.Then it passed Foreign Exchange Balance Provisions and Encouragement provisions in 1986, which facilitated FDI and allowed firms to solve fore ign exchange problems. (Jun Fu, November 2000). In 1994, China conducted a new round of FDI reforms. It abolished the official exchange rate and adopted a market rate. It also abolished the exchange quota retention system. In 1996, the government adopted IMF article A that removed all restrictions on foreign exchange transactions. All these reforms went a long way to boost investor confidence. In the November 1999 US-China WTO Accession Agreement, China agreed to several ground breaking reforms. (Sandra Berkun, 2001). Some of them were: China will phase in trading rights and distribution services over three years, and open up sectors relating to distribution services such as repair and maintenance, warehousing, trucking and air-courier services (US-China Business Council). China committed to allow FDI in its telecommunications industry. Increased access in banking, insurance and securities will be phased in the next five years resulting in full market access in all activities and regions. China also promised national treatment for foreign banks and minority ownership in domestic security firms and more insurance businesses.(Lardy ,1998) Increased access for professional services including accounting, consulting, engineering, medical and Information Technology. It is traditionally used as treatment remedy option for intestinal diseases, diarrhea and dysentery (Jindal and Sharma, 2004). The pomegranate fruit is comprised of almost 550% of full pomegranate mass. It contains 85% sap and 15% seeds. The fresh liquid is composed of 80% water, 15% whole sugars, and 2.5% pectin, polyphenolic flavonoids and the ascorbic acid. The critically abundant phytochemicals present in the juice of pomegranate are tannins. The most frequent phytochemicals in the pomegranate are the hydrolysable tannins. These are known as ellagitannins and are produced as the result of binding between some carbohydrate and the ellagic acid. Punicalagins are the type of tannins which have the property of scavenging for free radicals present in our body (Kulkarni et al , 2007). They have the potential to be used as therapeutics (Heber, 2008). Some other phytochemicals present are catechins which are polyphenolic in nature, gallocatechins and a variety of anthocyanins like cyanidin and prodelphinidins etc (Plumb et al., 2002). Due to the presence of these phytochemicals the pomegranate plant is very abundantly used as a therapeutic agent like bark of the root is used in the treatment of parasites residing in the intestine like tape worms. We will focus on the effects of punicalagins as they are readily absorbed and have a critical value as anti oxidants. Different studies involving the fruit extract and also the flower extract showed that there is high content of punicalagins in them and the therapeutic potential of this compound is very diverse. It is basically a poly phenolic compound. Particularly speaking the punicalaginsà are the huge compounds of polyphenols which are the isomers of 2, 3 - (S) -hexahydroxydiphenoyl-4,6-(S,S) - gallagyl- D- glucose. The molecular weight is 1085 reparation (Bialonska, et al, 2009). Affects of Processing on Punicalaginsà The homogeneous punicalagins is made by performing the extractions with different solvents of the comminuted pomegranate outgrowth. It has the reddish brown appearance and the total yield is about 30% to 35 % punicalagins. There is as such no effect of processing on the structure and activities of the compound. It maintains its native properties and is used commercially as an antioxidant. The final product is in the powder form. Different methods have been devised for the extraction of organic compounds, so similarly there have been a number of methods which have been used for the isolation and purification of the punicalagins. The organic extraction method is one of the safest and relatively cost effective methods. Whatever the method may be used, special care is taken in order to maintain the stability and activity of the product so that it can be used commercially or experimentally. For the purification relatively benign and highly specific and sensitive techniques are used like High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). As this is a very sensitive and rapid method the extracts can be easily purified by it. Studies are still under process to improve the methods of extraction of these bioactive compounds in their native form (Heber, 2008). Effects in the body Punicalagins are extremely exclusive and strong polyphenol antioxidant which metabolize into ellagic acid. His father was a cloth merchant living in London, both his parents were Catholic. It was a period of intense anti-Catholic sentiment in England, and at some point Alexander's family was forced to relocate to be in compliance with a statute forbidding Catholics from living within ten miles of London or Westminster. They moved to Binfield Berkshire where Pope's early education was affected by his Catholicism. The Catholic schools were illegal but, they were allowed to survive in some places. Prior to his move to Binfield Pope spent a year at Twofold, where he wrote "a satire on some faults of his master," which led to him being whipped and beaten until he became ill. Then once again he was taken from his family. Alexander went to study with Thomas Deane, a convert to Catholicism who lost his position at Oxford as a result of his religious beliefs. After the Pope family moved to Bin field Alexander became self-taught. Pope's disease apparently tuberculosis of the bone became evident when he was about twelve. Later in Pope's life, Sir Joshua Reynolds described him as "about four feet six high; very humpbacked and deformed. Pope was also afflicted with constant headaches, sometimes so severe that he could barely see the paper he wrote upon, frequent violent pain at bone and muscle joints shortness of breath, increasing inability to ride horses or even walk for exercise. William Wycherley, impressed by some of Pope's early poetry, introduced him into fashionable London literary circles in 1704. Public attention came with the publication of Pastorals in 1709. The Rape of the Lock helped secure Pope's reputation as a leading poet of the age. Pope moved Twickenham in 1717 there he received visitors just about everyone, attacked his literary contemporaries although notable exceptions were Swift and Gay, with whom he had close friendships and continued to publish poetry. He died May 21, 1744 at Twickenham Village. He wrote a poem called the Essay of a Man in 1733-1734) Pope examined the human condition against Miltonic, cosmic background. Although Pope's perspective is well above our everyday life, and he does not hide his wide knowledge, the dramatic work suggest than humankind is a part of nature and the diversity of living forms each beast, each insect, happy in its own. shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-72422805268964546112020-01-16T11:54:00.001-08:002020-01-16T11:54:03.846-08:00Conditions Under Which Decisions Are Made EssayIn that way you already have measures in place knowing that should you be in an accident you will have an alternative transport whilst your car is being fixed. Also when you buy a TV, you are usually given one year guarantee and you can get more years at an extra cost. In this instance you know that should the year be over and you had added two years more, and your TV has a problem maybe in the second year, you can take it back as it will still be under guarantee because you would have added more years to cover it. Risk This is when individuals can define a problem, specify the probability of certain events, identify alternative solutions, and state the probability of each solution leading to the desired result. Like in the case of construction, the construction cost overrun risk has a possibility that during the design and construction phase, the actual project costs will exceed projected costs as a result of weather, supplierââ¬â¢s shortage, labour and subcontractor performance. In this case the probability that this will happen will be dependent on past weather records, and experience of the contractor. A decision is made under risk when a supervisor or superior can list all possibilities of outcomes with the decision that has been made and state the probability of each outcome. There are two types of probabilities, there is an objective probability whereby the supervisor or manager assigns probability based on experience or similar situations and there is a subjective probability whereby the supervisor or manager has little experience with a the decision made or no data at all. This type of probability is based on personal experience or gut feel. For example, a manager decides to spend R2500. 00 on a shoe advertisement believing there are three possible outcomes for the advertisement, a 30% chance the advertisement will have only a small effect on sales, a 50% chance of a moderate effect, and a 20% chance of a very large effect. This decision is made under risk because the manager can list each potential outcome and determine the probability of each outcome occurring. Uncertainty This is when an individual does not have the necessary information to assign probabilities to the outcomes of alternative solutions. In cases of uncertainty the alternative solutions and problems are both unclear. Uncertainty exists when a decision maker cannot list all possible outcomes and/or cannot assign probabilities to the various outcomes. When faced with uncertainty, a manager would know only the different decision options available and the different possible states of nature. The states of nature are the future events or conditions that can influence the final outcome or payoff of a decision but cannot be controlled or affected by the manager. An example of a decision made under uncertainty would be, for a company in South Africa to open a branch say in Zambia producing products that have never been sold in that country. In this instance the is uncertainty as to whether the product will sell or not because they are not sure how the people of that country will receive hence a lot of money will be put in that project. shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-60041580844478935372020-01-08T08:17:00.001-08:002020-01-08T08:17:03.243-08:00The Effects Of Drug Abuse Among Youth - 1346 Words There is a growing trend of drug abuse among youth which canââ¬â¢t be ignored in todayââ¬â¢s society. It has been reported that ââ¬Å"the greater numbers of young people were reporting weekly consumption of alcohol and young drinkers were consuming larger amounts per drinking occasionâ⬠(Coleman Cater, 2003). Teenagers who persistently use drug out of control often experience serious problems. Those problems are related to physical health, mental health, academic difficulties, social relationships, and so on. Not only negative effects happened to themselves, but also to the family, community, and even the entire society. Due to adolescence are too young to reject addictive drug, the whole society is supposed to alert them to the negative effect of drug abuse. Another reason that people need to pay attention to the issue of the teenage drug abuse is that the economic consequences. The costs related to teenage drug abuse are really high. Financial losses suffered by drug- related crime victims, medical treatment service, and increased burdens for supporting young adults who need to financial aid for living are all be good examples. Teenage drug abuse is so popular because they are in the transit age, and they are experiencing lots of pressure from outside. ââ¬Å"Adolescents, however, often turn to prescription medications for help in relieving anxiety, to help them sleep, to enhance concentration, to help them lose weight, and to relieve pain.â⬠(Schwartz-Bloom, R., McConnell, E, 2006).Show MoreRelatedAn Investigation to Critically Assess the Effects of Drug Abuse Among Youths Between Ages 10-253086 Words à |à 13 Pagesinvestigation to critically assess the effects of drug abuse among youths between ages 10-25 of my community of Bonne Aventureâ⬠[pic] [pic] [pic] CANDIDATEââ¬â¢S PROFILE NAME OF CANDIDATE: Boshanie Patloo NAME OF SCHOOL: Marabella North Secondary School REGISTRATION NUMBER: TERRITORY: Trinidad DATE SUBMITTED: Monday 20th April 2009 THEME: Effects of drug abuse among youths in my CommunityRead MoreDrug Abuse And Its Effects On Youth And Teenagers1274 Words à |à 6 Pages HEALTHCARE LEADERSHIP ENGL1033 REPORT ASSIGNMENT DRUG ABUSE AND ITS EFFECTS ON YOUTH AND TEENAGERS NAME: ALVIN ALEX MATHEW COLLEGE ID: C0652356 INSTRUCTOR NAME: SHAWNA SHELDON SUBMITTED ON: 06/01/2015 DRUG ABUSE AND ITS EFFECTS ON YOUTH AND TEENAGERS Drug abuse has long been and still is a topical issue worldwide. Granting amnesty goes beyond a pardon, in that it forgives the said offense completely, and typically without consequences. For purposes of conservative politics, amnesty is a political term typically associated with two major issues: immigration and capital punishment. As it relates to immigration, amnesty is the term used for granting automatic citizenship to resident aliens, who are in the United States illegally. Amnesty for illegal immigrants is the subject of tremendous controversy since it essentially bypasses the citizenship and assimilation process essential to all legal immigration into the United States. As it relates to the death penalty, amnesty is the term used for when a governor grants a reprieve from execution to a prisoner sentenced to death. In this case, amnesty is different from a pardon in that it doesnt exonerate the condemned from all punitive action or absolve the convicted of all wrongdoing.ââ¬â¹ Illegal Immigration Was the 2013 Gang of Eight Bill amnesty? The easy answer is: Not really. The 2013à immigration bill did not offer blanket amnesty. In fact, there were a number of requirements, penalties, and steps that needed to be taken in order to remain in the country legally, and not everyone would get to stay: The Gang of Eight bill is actually called the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013. It was a comprehensive immigration reform proposal originating in and passed by the US Senate. It was a Democrat-friendly bill that needed a lot of work and had a lot of poor elements to it. The eight members included Republicans Marco Rubio, John McCain, Jeff Flake, and Lindsey Graham and Democrats Chuck Schumer, Bob Menendez, Richard Durbin, and Michael Bennet. The bill eventually passed by a vote of 68-32. From a conservative standpoint, the bill was not very good and though it had provisions beefing up border security, they were ultimately toothless and gave far too much power to the executive branch. Immigration Reform If immigration reform fails once again, it needs to fail after both the Senate and House pass bills. If the House passes an enforcement-first bill that the Senate refuses to adopt, the Senate is equally responsible for reform failing. And while voters agree immigration reform needs to happen, they also agree that closing the border and preventing more illegal immigration is a top priority. If the bill ultimately fails it will be on those grounds. Democrats want little in the way of border security, increasing deportation of criminal aliens, or slowing down the legalization and citizenship process. All of these are crucial elements of any immigration reform. If they are absent, reform should fail. These provisions have broad support among voters. The proof is in the television and radio ads that members of the Gang of Eight are running. In those ads, the Senate bill proponents constantly talk about strong enforcement measures because they know Americans do not want to see the current scenario play out again in a decade. Of course, those measures have been trimmed out of the bill. If immigration reform ultimately fails because conservatives stood for these core elements it will be harder for them to be badgered politically. After all, the are holding out for positions with broad public support. That said, the Republican Party has never been known to play to their advantages well with the public. Art is very diverse, ranging from the beginning of the human being to today. Through the years, art has evolved dramatically from stick figures and two dimensional animals to three dimensional sculptures and intricate paintings. The artwork featured at the Seattle Art Museum shows many different types of art and features several different periods in which these artworks were created. Two pieces of art that stuck out the most at the museum was Albert Bierstadtââ¬â¢s Puget Sound on the Pacific Coast and Robert Arnesonââ¬â¢s Pool with Splash. Both of these pieces of art showed character and seemed to almost speak to the viewer. Although there are many different periodsâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The pool that Robert formed using the ceramic media is three dimensional in form and is closely shaped like a lima bean. The ââ¬Å"waterâ⬠of the pool, is made up of many different pieces of ceramic and has several diff erent shades of blue and green. In order to represent the movement of water within the pool, Robert used complimentary blues and greens together and slightly swirled them to make it look close to how water moves. Each piece of the pools water fits together like a tight puzzle. They are numbered so that the colors and shapes can be set together perfectly while on display. In the center of the pool, is a large white ceramic ââ¬Å"splashâ⬠. This fits into conflict theory because the school would be considered a rational-legal authority. The students ââ¬Å"give inâ⬠to the rules and perceived rights of the school to raise tuition costs. We will write a custom essay sample on Weber and Simmelââ¬â¢s Take on Power and Conflict or any similar topic only for you Order Now As Jon Witt said ââ¬Å"there are reasonsâ⬠¦ for why people should do what they are told to do. If the school did not charge the students money then they would not be able to pay the teachers and professors to educate them. This idea fits into the broader theory because Wittââ¬â¢s claim about the US being individualistic is not expanded in this chapter, but it is in previous ones. In chapter 4, Witt mentioned ââ¬Å"â⬠¦we combine extreme interdependence (due to specialization) with a strong sense of individualism (tied to a weak collective conscience). We depend on each other more than ever, but we realize it less. In an article by Margaret Foster, she asks 70 college presidents ââ¬Å"can you school continue to attract students at its current rate of tuition growth? â⬠and 80% said yes. This tells me that students are simply following the rational-legal authority of the bureaucratic schools, choosing to accept the higher charges and taking out higher loans. The stud ents most likely do this because they are too weak as individuals to do anything about it or they assume the school leaders are making these decisions because they have no other choice (bad economy, budget cuts, ect). George Ritzer claims that the unpredictability of human error has led to a desire for greater control and the replacement of human with nonhuman technology. The idea of companies (bureaucracies) replacing humans with technology to ensure efficiency fits into Weberââ¬â¢s theory of formal rationality. As Ritzer explains ââ¬Å"[Fast-food chains have] employed all the rational principles pioneered by the bureaucracy and is part of the bureaucratic system because huge conglomerates now own many of the fast-food chains. McDonaldââ¬â¢s utilized bureaucratic principles and combined them with others, and the outcome is the process of McDonaldization. â⬠Ritzer backs his claim up with multiple examples and evidence. One of which being the replacement of human communication over the telephone. Companies force people to go through a string of ââ¬Å"press 1 for yes or 2 for noâ⬠s before they even talk to a real person. In some cases, the person doesnââ¬â¢t speak to a real person at all. Although annoying, people just excuse it away as a consequence of living in our technological world. This idea is expanded in an article by Karen Korzep. She outlines the advantages and problems with TeleHealth (medical technology) and the resistance among people to a total technological take-over. She explains in her conclusion that ââ¬Å"just because the technology exists, does not mean that everyone will be accepting to itâ⬠¦ [however] [i]n my opinion, it will be at least one more decade before we see this technology take over and really have an effect on jobs. â⬠Therefore, even though people may have resistance to the technology and worry that it will affect jobs negatively, the technology will still, most likely, take over in time. William J. Staudenmeier, Jr. claims in his chapter about Georg Simmelââ¬â¢s theories on social drinking that when a member of the group buys a round of drinks, the others would not simply pay them money, because ââ¬Å"treatingâ⬠¦ has to do with personal relationships, and it is not strictly an economic exchange. â⬠This idea fits into conflict theory because the taverns are becoming more and more bureaucratic with rules and regulations that the consumers must follow or face the consequences (kicked out or banned for fighting or over drinking). Instead of backing his claim up with evidence, Staudenmeier expands on the idea by saying ââ¬Å"the ââ¬Ësurplus of satisfactionââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ ¦ comes from the value of giving and receiving in a group in which such actions and the thought of such actions make us feel good and make us feel a part of the group. This is outside the narrow cash nexus of economic exchange because what is calculated here is not mere profit and loss. â⬠The issue of teenage pregnancy and how it fits into this theory is best addressed in an article by Linda Arms Gilbert. She outlined a study done by the Franklin Heights Federal Housing Project in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The Murfreesboro Housing Authority partnered with the police department to help rid the projects from drug-related behaviors by developing positive relationships with the Franklin Heights families. The police department made over 500 contacts, creating a positive working relationship between the families and law enforcement as well as informed residents willing to provide tips against drug-related behaviors. The Parks and Recreation Department started an after-school program for 8-13-year old students, which included educational leisurely activities and an after-school tutoring program. A Parents as Teachers Program was started that allowed teen mothers to connect with their children. The program ââ¬Å"held group meetings to help young parents understand the emotional, physical cognitive needs of their young children and to form a community of teen mothers who could offer support to each other. In the end ââ¬Å"Franklin Heights has taught an entire city about the importance of collaboration and has shown what can be accomplished when individuals and agencies choose to look beyond the borders of their own job descriptions and departments to see the needs of families within that community. â⬠The point is that, even in a bureaucratic society where, typically, rational-legal authority does not think about the well-being of their ââ¬Å"workersâ⬠(in this case, the people who req uire government assistance), there can be an authority who thinks beyond what is efficient and profitable and helps the issue of teenage pregnancy, drug use, and violence. ââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬âââ¬â- [ 1 ]. Find quotation and detail from the text to support your argument. I think that the three most important events in the book that effect Amirââ¬â¢s character is.. 1) When he watches Assef rape Hassan. This while it does not effect Amirsââ¬â¢s character in a positive way, still has a profound effect on him. He is wracked with guilt that haunts him though his life. It is a ââ¬Ëmetaphorical demonââ¬â¢ that he must face. After allowing Hassan to be raped, Amir is not any happier. On the contrary, his guilt is relentless, and he recognizes his selfishness cost him his happiness rather than increasing it. ââ¬Å"That was a long time ago, but itââ¬â¢s wrong what they say about the past, Iââ¬â¢ve learned, about how you can bury it. Looking back now, I realize I have been peeking into that deserted alley for the last twenty-six years. â⬠To the reader, the quotation functions as a teaser. It piques the readerââ¬â¢s interest without revealing exactly what Amir is talking about, and from the time period Amir mentions, twenty-six years, the reader gets an idea of just how important this moment was. As the story unfolds, we realize that the deserted alley Amir refers to is where Hassan was raped, and that this event has largely defined the course of Amirââ¬â¢s life since. This is what Amir means when he says that the past continues to claw its way out. Try as he might to bury it, he was unable to because his feelings of guilt kept arising. As a result, he figuratively continues peeking into the alley where Assef raped Hassan, literally meaning that he keeps going over the event in his mind. ââ¬Å"I actually aspired to cowardice, because the alternative, the real reason I was running, was that Assef was right: Nothing was free in this world. Maybe Hassan was the price I had to pay, the lamb I had to slay, to win Baba. â⬠When Amir says this, toward the end of Chapter 7, he has just watched Assef rape Hassan, and rather than intervene, he ran away. Amir says he aspired to cowardice because, in his estimation, what he did was worse than cowardice. If fear of being hurt by Assef were the main reason he ran, Amir suggests that at least would have been more justified. Instead, he allowed the rape to happen because he wanted the blue kite, which he thought would prove to Baba that he was a winner like him, earning him Babaââ¬â¢s love and approval. The price of the kite, as Amir says, was Hassan, and this is why Amir calls Hassan the lamb he had to slay. He draws a comparison between Hassan and the lamb sacrificed during the Muslim holiday of Eid Al-Adha to commemorate Abrahamââ¬â¢s near sacrifice of his son to God. In this context, Hassan was the sacrifice Amir had to make to get the kite and ultimately to gain Babaââ¬â¢s affection. 2) the discovery of Sohrab. Once Amir has married and established a career, only two things prevent his complete happiness: his guilt and his inability to have a child with Soraya. Sohrab, who acts as a substitute for Hassan to Amir, actually becomes a solution to both problems. Amir describes Sohrab as ââ¬Ëlooking like a sacrificial lambââ¬â¢during his confrontation with Assef, but it is actually himself that Amir courageously sacrifices. In doing this, as Hassan once did for him, Amir redeems himself, which is why he feels relief even as Assef beats him. Amir also comes to see Sohrab as a substitute for the child he and Soraya cannot have, and as a self-sacrificing father figure to Sohrab, Amir assumes the roles of Baba and Hassan. 3)The confintation with Assef. My body was brokenââ¬âjust how badly I wouldnââ¬â¢t find out until laterââ¬âbut I felt healed. Healed at last. I laughed. â⬠This quotation occurs during Amirââ¬â¢s meeting with Assef as he tries to find Sohrab in Chapter 22. Assef beats Amir with brass knuckles, snapping Amirââ¬â¢s ribs, splitting his lip and busting his jaw, and breaking the bone beneath his left eye, but because Amir feels he deserves this, he feels relief. He thinks he should have accepted the beating from Assef years ago, when he was given the choice of saving Hassanââ¬âand likely getting physically hurtââ¬âor letting Assef rape Hassan. Since that time, Amir has struggled with his guilt, which was only made worse by the fact that he was never punished for his actions. He had even gone looking for punishment in the past, as when he tried to get Hassan to hit him with the pomegranates, because he felt then there would at least be some justice for the way he treated Hassan. But Amirââ¬â¢s guilt lingered until his confrontation with Assef, which despite the physical pain, made him feel psychologically healed. Thus, while Assef beat him, he began to laugh. For each of these ââ¬Ëlife lessonsââ¬â¢, describe how Amir changes /what he learns. (How is Amir different at the end of the novel)? 1)The rape, at first, does not have a positive outcome to Amirââ¬â¢s personality. But it was a cross road. The rape made Amir wake up to the true world. Because he chose not to help the guilt haunts him. This guilt is the metaphorical demon of Amir. If it wasnââ¬â¢t for this guilt Amir would have never found the motivation to help Sohrab. The book is about redemption, redemption of this guilt. But because he feels guilt about the rape, and how it has troubled him for the past 26 year shows how deeply he actually cared about Hassan. The raep motivates him though out the book to try and find a way to redeem himself to face down his demon. 2)The discovery of Sohrab gives Amir away to redeem himself for his past sins. He is to Amir ââ¬Å"a sacrificial lambâ⬠Because of this he becomes truly determined and dedicated to Sohrab. And the man he becomes through helping him is a man to be admired. 3)His confintation with Assef is to AMire a way to pay for his sins. Completely get ride of them. A way to ââ¬Ëhealââ¬â¢ himself. This is where the man at the end of the book, a good man, comes into being. What do you think about Amir? Do you admire him or not? Explain why you feel like this? The central character of the story as well as its narrator, Amir has a privileged upbringing. His father, Baba, is rich by Afghan standards, and as a result, Amir grows up accustomed to having what he wants. The only thing he feels deprived of is a deep emotional connection with Baba, which he blames on himself. He thinks Baba wishes Amir were more like him, and that Baba holds him responsible for killing his mother, who died during his birth. Amir, consequently, behaves jealously toward anyone receiving Babaââ¬â¢s affection. His relationship with Hassan only exacerbates this. Though Hassan is Amirââ¬â¢s best friend, Amir feels that Hassan, a Hazara servant, is beneath him. When Hassan receives Babaââ¬â¢s attention, Amir tries to assert himself by passive-aggressively attacking Hassan. He mocks Hassanââ¬â¢s ignorance, for instance, or plays tricks on him. At the same time, Amir never learns to assert himself against anyone else because Hassan always defends him. All of these factors play into his cowardice in sacrificing Hassan, his only competition for Babaââ¬â¢s love, in order to get the blue kite, which he thinks will bring him Babaââ¬â¢s approval. The change in Amirââ¬â¢s character we see in the novel centers on his growth from a selfish child to a selfless adult. After allowing Hassan to be raped, Amir is not any happier. On the contrary, his guilt is relentless, and he recognizes his selfishness cost him his happiness rather than increasing it. Once Amir has married and established a career, only two things prevent his complete happiness: his guilt and his inability to have a child with Soraya. Sohrab, who acts as a substitute for Hassan to Amir, actually becomes a solution to both problems. Amir describes Sohrab as looking like a sacrificial lamb during his confrontation with Assef, but it is actually himself that Amir courageously sacrifices. So in conclusion I did not like Amirââ¬â¢s character at the bigining but I could understand it. On His path to redemption I admire him for just how much he did to achive his goal. His character at the end I truly admire, here is a man who made him self suffer for years and after reliving himself of that guilt is a truly better man. One that I am sure Baba would be proud of. shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-49916378525296393532019-11-29T05:25:00.001-08:002019-11-29T05:25:03.626-08:00Overpopulation in Pakistan Essay ExampleOverpopulation in Pakistan Paper The qualitative aspects Of population, major factors affecting population growth, Malthusian population trap, the problems created by overpopulation and the possible solutions to the problems. All this will be done with the help of graphs. Introduction: Overpopulation can be defined as the condition where ââ¬Å"finite resources of a particular area will run out if the population expands beyond a given pointâ⬠. Economics is defined as the social science dealing with the allocation of scarce resources. The earth has a reserve of scarce resources and when the population exceeds a certain level, allocation of these resources becomes official and leads to various economic problems such as unemployment and poverty. Historical perspective: The population of the world has reached six billion. There has been a gradual increase in the world population over the centuries (see table 2. 1 and fig. 2. 2). During the 1 sass the growth rate was low a mere 1. 47%, it further decreased during the sassââ¬â¢s. The main reason for this decline was that if at that time an epidemic spread, it ravaged millions of people. Also the infant mortality rate was high but despite the less use of contraceptives, the population growth rate was low. In the decade of 1 970, the population increased very quickly and problems related to overpopulation arose. This is not of much help because there were already a large number of people present on the earth now; the damage had been already done. The population distribution has also affected this. Population density: One very interesting fact is that most of the world population is concentrated in the lesser-developed countries, most of which are in Asia (see fig 2. 3). These countries have limited resources, so the increasing population is a strain on the country. As the people have lesser exposure to the facilities of living, they remain unaware of problem of population and continue to have large families. In comparison to the world growth rate the, the growth rate of Asia only started to decline during the sassââ¬â¢s. It means that the more developed countries, which are mostly located in the west, mainly offered the reduction in growth rate. As the lower developed countries were unable to control population growth, they were unable to develop themselves. They are aught in a dilemma; a lot of labor force but most of the available human force were not productive. Purpose of Assignment: Our aim is to analyze the overpopulation problem in Pakistan. Although the population has qualitative as well as quantitative aspects, we will focus mainly On the quantitative aspects. Overpopulation poses threats to the society and the economy. Our focus is the economy but we will also discuss some social issues, relating to the economy. Relationship between population and economic development: Production level of a country can be boosted by the working capacity of the population. Population is playing a double role in the process of economic development of third world countries. It provides labor force for economic development and is also a burden on resources. Population in Pakistan include: Growth rate, birth rate, death rate and migration. shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-72912058525040131112019-11-25T12:56:00.001-08:002019-11-25T12:56:04.063-08:00Biography of Blaise Pascal, Inventor of the CalculatorBiography of Blaise Pascal, Inventor of the Calculator French inventor Blaise Pascal (June 19, 1623ââ¬âAug. 19, 1662) was one of the most reputed mathematicians and physicists of his time. He is credited with inventing an early calculator, amazingly advanced for its time, called the Pascaline. Fast Facts: Blaise Pascal Known For: Mathematician and inventor of an early calculatorBorn: June 19, 1623 in Clermont, FranceParents: Ãâ°tienne Pascal and his wife Antoinette BegonDied: August 19, 1662 in Port-Royal abbey, ParisEducation: Home-schooled, admitted to meetings of the French Academy, studies at Port-RoyalPublished Works: Essay on Conic Sections (1640), Pensà ©es (1658), Lettres Provinciales (1657)Inventions: Mystic Hexagon, Pascaline calculatorSpouse(s): NoneChildren: None Early Life Blaise Pascal was born at Clermont on June 19, 1623, the second of three children of Ãâ°tienne and Antoinette Bà ©gon Pascal (1596ââ¬â1626). Ãâ°tienne Pascal (1588ââ¬â1651) was a local magistrate and tax collector at Clermont, and himself of some scientific reputation, a member of the aristocratic and professional class in France known as noblesse de robe. Blaises sister Gilberte (b. 1620) was his first biographer; his younger sister Jacqueline (b. 1625) earned acclaim as a poet and dramatist before becoming a nun. Antoinette died when Blaise was 5. Ãâ°tienne moved the family to Paris in 1631, partly to prosecute his own scientific studies and partly to carry on the education of his only son, who had already displayed exceptional ability. Blaise Pascal was kept at home in order to ensure he was not being overworked, and his father directed that his education should be at first confined to the study of languages. He requested that mathematics not be introduced until his son was 15. This naturally excited the boys curiosity, and one day, being then 12 years old, he asked what geometry was. His tutor replied that it was the science of constructing exact figures and of determining the proportions between their different parts. Blaise Pascal, stimulated no doubt by the injunction against reading it, gave up his play-time to this new study, and in a few weeks had discovered for himself many properties of figures, and in particular the proposition that the sum of the angles of a triangle is equal to two right angles. In response, his father brought him a copy of Euclid. A genius from a young age, Blaise Pascal composed a treatise on the communication of sounds at the age of 12, and at the age of 16 he composed a treatise on conic sections. A Life of Science At the age of 14, Blaise Pascal was admitted to the weekly meetings of Roberval, Mersenne, Mydorge, and other French geometricians, from which, ultimately, the French Academy sprung. In 1641, at the age of 18, Pascal built his first arithmetical machine, an instrument which, eight years later, he further improved and called the Pascaline. His correspondence with Fermat about this time shows that he was then turning his attention to analytical geometry and physics. He repeated Torricellis experiments, by which the pressure of the atmosphere could be estimated as a weight, and he confirmed his theory of the cause of barometrical variations by obtaining at the same instant readings at different altitudes on the hill of Puy-de-Dà ´me. The Pascaline The idea of using machines to solve mathematical problems can be traced at least as far back as the earlyà 17th century. Mathematicians who designed and implemented calculators that were capable of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division included Wilhelm Schickhard, Blaise Pascal, and Gottfried Leibniz. Pascal invented his numerical wheel calculator called theà Pascalineà to help his father, by then a French tax collector, count taxes. The Pascaline had eight movable dials that added up to eight figured long sums and used base ten. When the first dial (ones column) moved 10 notches, the second dial moved one notch to represent the tens column reading of 10. When the second dial moved 10 notches, the third dial (hundreds column) moved one notch to represent one hundred, and so on. Blaise Pascals Other Inventions Roulette Machine Blaise Pascal introduced a very primitive version of the roulette machine in the 17th century. The roulette was a by-product of Blaise Pascals attempts to inventà aà perpetual motion machine. Wrist Watch The first reported person to actually wear aà watchà on the wrist was Blaise Pascal. Using a piece of string, he attached his pocket watch to his wrist. Religious Studies In 1650 while he was in the midst of thisà research, Blaise Pascal suddenly abandoned his favorite pursuits to study religion, or, as he says in his Pensà ©es, contemplate the greatness and the misery of man. At about the same time, he persuaded the younger of his two sisters to enter the Benedictine abbey of Port-Royal. In 1653, Blaise Pascal had to administer his fathers estate. He took up his old life again and conducted several experiments on the pressure exerted by gases and liquids. It was also about this period that he invented the arithmetical triangle, and together with Fermat he created the calculus of probabilities. He was meditating marriage when an accident again turned his thoughts to religious life. He was driving a four-in-hand carriage on November 23, 1654, when the horses ran away. The two leaders dashed over the parapet of the bridge at Neuilly, and Blaise Pascal was saved only by the traces breaking. Death Always somewhat of a mystic, Pascal considered this a special summons to abandon the world. He wrote an account of the accident on a small piece of parchment, which for the rest of his life he wore next to his heart to perpetually remind him of his covenant. He moved to Port-Royal shortly after, where he continued to live until his death in Paris on August 19, 1662. Constitutionally delicate, Pascal had injured his health by his incessant study; from the age of 17 or 18 he suffered from insomnia and acute dyspepsia, and at the time of his death he was physically worn out. He neither married nor had children, and at the end of his life he became an ascetic. Modern scholars have attributed his illness to a variety of possible ailments, including gastrointestinal tuberculosis, nephritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and/or irritable bowel syndrome. Legacy Blaise Pascals contribution to computing was recognized by computer scientist Nicklaus Wirth, who in 1972 named his new computer language Pascal (and insisted that it be spelled Pascal, not PASCAL). The Pascal (Pa) is a unit of atmospheric pressure named in honor of Blaise Pascal, whose experiments greatly increased knowledge of the atmosphere. A pascal is the force of one newton acting on a surface area of one square meter. It is the unit of pressure designated by the International System.100,000 Pa 1000 mb or 1 bar. For the purpose, two movies of similar nature may be compared and contrasted to analyze various elements involved. Thus, a comparison of the movie The Kid with a Bike and Bicycle Thieves may prove futile for the paper. Therefore, the paper will be arguing how both papers are similar in context to the various themes and simple symbolic elements like a bicycle. Yet, the paper will also be talking about how the themes which are similar in nature have been approached in a different fashion with elements of contemporary nature impacting one movie making it different from the other. Therefore, an analysis of these similarities and differences will lead towards conclusive discussion of how these elements drastically impact the movie being talked about. Firstly, both the movies are similar in context to their reflection of harsh realities of time. Thus, both movies tend to reflect on the hard lives of the central characters by depicting their heartbreaking life stories. In this context, the movie ââ¬ËThe kid with a bikeââ¬â¢ takes a naturalistic approach while narrating sufferings of an abandoned child. This theme is similar to the one depicted in the Italian styled movie ââ¬ËBicycle Thievesââ¬â¢. In both the movies, the core point of concern throughout have been the highly difficult moral as well as economic conditions which De Sica had to suffer after his bike gets stolen. Therefore, both movies are exactly similar in explicating the hard struggles which the central characters had to suffer from. The realistic lens, thus, proves to be futile in this context. Another shared theme between the two movies, besides the element of harsh realities of life has been that of the material prosperity. The central character Cyril in the movie, The kid in the Bikeââ¬â¢ isn`t born rich and thus, when he shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-34885932917261310342019-11-20T17:02:00.001-08:002019-11-20T17:02:06.578-08:00Appraising Legal Concerns Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 wordsAppraising Legal Concerns - Research Paper Example Contract Law Contract law is the most fundamental governing law of any procurement project. It is because procurement projects commence after signing the legal contract. Managers must be completely aware of all legal obligations of a contract so they may not step out of line. A comprehensive definition of contract law is; ââ¬Å"An agreement between two or more persons which creates anà obligation to do or not to do a particular thing. Its essentials are competentà parties, subject matter, a legal consideration, mutuality of agreement, and mutuality of obligation.â⬠(Fleming, 2003) But more suitable definition of contract law (regarding procurement management) is; ââ¬Å"A contract is a mutually binding agreement that obligates the sellerà to provide the specified product and obligates the buyer to pay forà itâ⬠(Institute, 2000) However, most of procurement projects involve more than just mere buying and selling of goods and services. Procurement includes partnersh ips and joint ventures and they legally bind the participants to perform an action. That is why it is better to use the definition for contract law which has a broader perspective. Taking a deeper look into the broader definition, following ten points can be concluded; a. A contract is a promise between two or more people or two or more parties b. ... The other party that needs to accept the offer has to accept it unconditionally f. If the accepting party wants to make adjustments (modification) to the original offer, the original offer will become void and a new offer will be formed. This process can continue until there is an offer from one party and an unconditional acceptance of it by the other. g. Concurrency is obligatory; all parties to the contract must agree to the same exact terms. h. A contract becomes only legal when there is ââ¬Ëconsiderationââ¬â¢ involved. Consideration is anything that has value and is offered in exchange of something (goods or service). Consideration doesnââ¬â¢t necessarily have to be of the same value. i. The purpose of a contract should be legal as illegal contracts have negligible value in the eyes of law. j. All contracts need to be in the proper legally acceptable format. This usually requires the contract to be in black and white form (on paper) and signed. Mostly real estate contrac ts and contracts of simple buying/selling are classic examples (Fleming, 2003). Agency law By the standards of this law, any agent that will be appointed by the company (principal) will hold the same position in the deciding about procuring goods as the CEO. In other words, the agent will be acting on behalf of the company. Whatever contract he will enter the company into, the company will be liable to abide by the rules and promises of that contract. In the Latin phrase, the relationship between agent and principal is described by theà phrase,à qui facit per alium, facit per se, i.e.à the one who acts through another, acts in his or her own interests (Wikipedia contributors, 2011). Regarding the matter at hand which shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-91910759332172260862019-11-18T16:26:00.001-08:002019-11-18T16:26:03.725-08:00Of mice and men - Criminal Justice Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 wordsOf mice and men - Criminal Justice - Essay Example Thus, in his mind, he did not think it possible to live without his rabbits, which he loved. However, to understand the reasons for which he could not stop himself from murdering Curleyââ¬â¢s wife, it is essential to look first at the factors that had made Lennie who he was. First, the events that led up to Lennieââ¬â¢s murder of Curleyââ¬â¢s wife show that it was not entirely his fault that he committed the act. To begin with, despite Lennie asking her to leave, she refuses and actually moves closer to him and places his hand on her head (Steinbeck 45), thus beginning the physical connection that eventually results in her death. She did this in the full knowledge that, this was a man who had crushed Curleyââ¬â¢s hand and, also killed a small puppy. In this case, it is possible to argue that Lennie was totally responsible for killing Curleyââ¬â¢s wife and, therefore, committing manslaughter. This is because he had killed a puppy just before Curleyââ¬â¢s wife came into the barn (Steinbeck 42), while he had also been accused of rape when working on a farm in Weed and crushed Curleyââ¬â¢s hand. In essence, even though he does not fully understand his crimes, he is aware that he has done wrong as he flees the area and accepts that he has d one wrong. Now, Lennie has murdered another person and, thus, needs to be jailed to protect other people, as well as himself. However, looking at it from another perspective, Lennie is not guilty of homicide because he is mentally handicapped and killing Curleyââ¬â¢s wife was not an intentional action. Although he is a grown-up, he is described as being child-like and not responsible for any of his actions. Lennie has shown that he at least has some understanding about what bad behavior entails in the past. For instance, he is aware that his rape in Weed was bad behavior, while he is also aware that killing the small puppy was a shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-63640788323159878662019-11-16T04:59:00.001-08:002019-11-16T04:59:09.567-08:00Role of Social Media in Developing AwarenessRole of Social Media in Developing Awareness Part A: Use of social media Social media plays an important role in awareness creation. It provides the best mode of communication to many organizations in the present world. It involves the use of social networks such as Televisions, face book, websites among other broadcasting techniques. Social media build an idea environment for interaction where people can meet and share their idea. Communication in the social media covers a wide area since many people are accessible to the information, for instance, many people can access information posted to a Facebook page. Information posted can be spread to many people over a short period of time. Advancement in technology has played an important role in improving social media communication. People who are a distant apart can communicate to each other as if they are close to each other. Many organizations have utilized the social media to communicate their agenda to the mass. This text will focus on Acorns Childrens Hospice, one of the social care organizations by an alysing how the organization utilizes social media to create its awareness (Firth, Luff, Oliviere, 2005, 58). Acorn children hospice trust is one of the registered charity organizations that offers network of care and support to the life-threatened and life-limited children and their families across the entire central England. The organization constitutes a well community team that offers support to families in their homes. Aware creation is important since it helps the family to mobilize resources and seek for support from various organizations in order to support the charity work. Social media enhances the acknowledgement of the organization and its activities globally and therefore, anybody willing to support the organization can do it from wherever they are (Firth, Luff, Oliviere, 2005, 56). The organization uses various social media to communicate on their values. These include advertisement through the television. This provides an ideal method of awareness creation since most people are accessible to television in the present world. The advertisements are made at a given interval period of time repeatedly so that many people can acquire the information communicated on the advertisement. For example, the North West hospice club jointly came together to launch a joint TV advertisement. The main aim of the advertisement was to raise funds and creation of awareness about their existence They also use Face book to advertise their services and terms of operation. For more emphasis, they upload the group photo of the children supported by the organization and post it on face book. Through these, anybody who accesses their page will see their existence. Face book forms one of the most used social media today. Studies show that most youth today are addicted to Face-book, approximately more than half the youth population in the world access Face book every day. They access Face book through chatting with friend and in the process they can come across the adverts made via the Face book. They have form their Face book link and twitter link that people can follow to access their information They also have a website where they post their activities and news. Anybody can access the information posted on the website when he or she visits the website. They have a well-organized website where they description. They have pages and links on the website that people can follow in order to partner with them in their activities. One can reach their site by clicking www.acorns.org.uk. Websites are not very popular compared to the Facebook and twitters. The advantage in the website is that they provide a deep description of the activities of the company and therefore, one can get full details about the company from their website. Advertisement on the website is conducive for the current digital world, the advertisement can be read by any person in the world. The only disadvantage with this kind of advertisement is that the analogue people may not get the information and therefore they may not get accessed to the information. This mode of awareness creation only favours literate peop le and this that the information is limited to the learned people who can access the internet (Brown Warr, 2007, 35). The organization also uses social interaction and engagement in social activities to advertise their existence. This provides one of the best way of awareness creation, however, it is only limited to the region where the firm is located. The children home is the official charity of Aston Villa. They have the acornââ¬â¢s day where they engage in so many activities. Since people like football, the association of the organization with football enhance the knowledge of people about the organization (Tuten, 2008, 68). Internet is used by people of all ages and therefore it forms one of the major medium of communication and is used to replace the TV advertisement, magazine and newspaper advertisement because of their limited coverage and lack of standardization. Online advertisement does not limit the volume of information that can be posted on the net and therefore, it allows the organization to give a full description of their activities. The organization can improve their awareness creation campaign using the social media by forming a link that link that can allow people to access the information using the phones via the text message. The information presented in this manner will reach the biggest percentage of people in the whole world including people who are not accessed to network. Communications on the social media are usually communicated in English which is a common language of the social network. This limits people who cannot understand English from acquiring the information. The information can be structured in that it is communicated in various language that at least many people if not all can understand. The information posted should give a detail of their programs, their ambitions and visions as an organization rather than just communicating their existence. People will get attracted to the company and be willing to visit their social websites and social Face book accounts after learning of the organizational visions and operational strategy. Evaluation according to appendix 3 Does your agency use social media? (since when, in what ways) Yes, the urgency uses social has been using social media since the period when it was formed. Is there anything else you would like to say on the use of social media in social care? Social media plays an important role in awareness creation about the social care organizations. Part B: Reflective Summery Effective communication is fundamental factors in an individualââ¬â¢s life. It is the key interpersonal skill and learning how an individual can improve communication skills is an important value in life. Communication involves the sending of the message and receiving of the message. Engagement in activities in these modules has enhanced my communication and interpersonal relations in various ways. Proper communication and interpersonal understanding enhances the individualââ¬â¢s relationship in the social area (Donnelly, Neville, 2008, 37). It helps in avoiding misunderstanding and possible conflicts that may arise between two individuals. People conflict over issues because of misunderstanding that arises from poor communication skills. Eloquent speech shows maturity and organization in an individualââ¬â¢s thinking. Through the module, my way of information presentation has improved in that I can now present information in a way that it can be understood easily. One of the important aspects in communication that I learnt is the art of listening. Listening is a critical element in a communication that involves more than one person. It mostly affects the verbal communication. Poor listening leads to misunderstanding in the communication and this may result to disagreement between the parties involved in communication (Donnelly, Neville, 2008, 39). There is need of using clarification and reflections in order to understand the meaning and the intention of the communication from the other party to avoid confusion. Interpersonal skills help us to communicate effectively and interact with people in our daily activities. People with strong interpersonal skills are usually successful in both the personal and professional life. Good interpersonal skills bring out the perception of calm, optimistic charismatic and confident in and individual and these qualities are usually appealing to others. Through the module I have acquired confident to relate positively with every person I interact with unlike in the past where I could segregate myself and chose people to communicate with. Effective communication is a communication that is bias free and does not tolerate prejudice. Some of the interpersonal skills learned in the module include verbal communication, non-verbal communication, negotiation, listening, problem solving, decision making and assertiveness. I can now express my ideas in an organized manner and in a scenario where there is need of negotiation; I know the approach to take. The study about communication skills and interpersonal skills is an important study that should be encouraged in any learning institution. Many people lack proper communication and interpersonal skills and therefore, they cannot address matters affecting them in the best way. This is the reason why there is a lot of wars and conflict in many parts of the world today. These skills are also important in the development and success of any business organization (Koprowska, 2010, 128). Building good communication skills help in reducing stress. Proper communication builds friendship and strong social support to an individual. One can easily vent out issues affecting them to the people they trust. On the other hand, interpersonal skills enable an individual to make appropriate decision on matters affecting him or her (Whitcomb, Whitcomb, 2013, 190). People usually face problems and challenges in the daily life and the major problem comes when an individual has to make a decision on a given matter at hand. This is the point where many people fail and because they donââ¬â¢t know the decision making skills, they end up making poor and informed decision that causes a lot of problems in their life. The module enhanced my decision making skills in that now I can take time, analyze the problem and eventually come out with an appropriate decision. Proper communication needs experimentation and practice. The skills are learned through experience and they improve along the course of life. Communication requires application of ethics and etiquette. In communication, I have learned to be honest and never to criticize anybody during the conversation. Communication involves allowing oneself to be challenged by other peopleââ¬â¢s idea. One should focus on the conversation during the communication process and avoid any form of interruption that may deter effective communication. Some of the ways in which an individual can improve the interpersonal and communication skills are as follows. An individual may seek an opportunity to lead in order to improve on the communication and interpersonal skills. Leadership provides a god ground for training individuals on their interaction with other people within the organization. To improve on the interpersonal skills, one ought to take up proactive initiative in any position they are. For instance, in a business setting, one may bring up fellow co-workers together to solve a problem within the institution or develop a concept that will help improve the performance of the business organization (West, Turner, 2011, 25). Through such activities, one learns how to effectively communicate with other people and at the same time he or she develops the interpersonal skills. Interpersonal skills are also perfected through practice. For example, people may learn to express themselves by engaging in writing activities since through it, it train it help a person to think before speaking out. Writing requires control and therefore, it helps people to communicate to themselves. Internal communication precedes the interpersonal communication; consistent writing can help a person improve on the interpersonal and communication skills. On the other side, practice can also be conducted by rehearsing communication skills by recording tool. Learners can record can record themselves and later on listen or watch themselves speaking. In the analysis, the person analyses the effective use of body language, language command, and tone of voice and the level of confidence. Acting is an art that offers a good opportunity to relate with various groups of people. It can enable a person to build on language command and confidence. Through acting, a person gets a chance to communicate on the stage in a manner that the audience can understand and appreciate. Through this, a person is able to build on his or her communication and interpersonal skills. There are several leaders in many spheres of life who expresses good communication and interpersonal skills. Taking time to watch and listen from speeches made by such leaders may also guide an individual to enhance the interpersonal skills. Communication and interpersonal skills determines how far an individual may go in terms of social related activities. This means that it also dictates personal success, poor communication and interpersonal skills result into failure in life (West, Turner, 2011, 23). SMART action plan Learning Objective How will objective be achieved? Action Plan How will objective be evaluated? To enhance the interpersonal and communication skills Form discussion forums and social interactions that will help people develop courage and confidence Analyse the ability of an individual to communicate in a group of people To enhance proper relations and ability to express ones idea Practice a lot of writing art Determine an individualââ¬â¢s ability to respond to situation and interact with various people. Enhance decision making skills Identify a problem and try to formulate a solution to the problem Analyze the effectiveness of an individual to handle a problem. shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2972445174190628283.post-7265616581046850962019-11-13T17:30:00.001-08:002019-11-13T17:30:04.548-08:00fahrenheit 9/11 :: essays research papers 1. Although most journalists would state that their main objective in reporting on a story is to maintain impartial, this with the onset of cable news stations as well as the internet has become increasingly rare. Cable news stations such as CNN and FOX news are increasingly influenced by the politicians and corporations which control most of their funding. As Michael Moore states in his documentary ââ¬Å" Fahrenheit 9/11â⬠, which ironically is another good example of bias in the media, the man in charge of Fox Newsââ¬â¢ decision desk on election night was none other then George Bushââ¬â¢s first cousin. I would seem impartially may be compromised in this situation. To say that the media worked together with the media to promote the Iraq war may be an exaggeration, however the media in know way held the government responsible for the fraud that they committed in invading Iraq. The media, whether knowingly or not, promoted the Bush Administrations agenda in Iraq by arousin g overwhelming feelings of nationalism in the American people. It then became unpopular, or un-american to oppose the war. In the case of the Iraq war the media failed to properly fulfill its responsibility of maintaining accountability in government as well as most importantly reporting in an impartial style. Saddam Hussein was a dictator, who through intimidation and force maintained his grasp on power. These are tactics used by many governments throughout the world, ironically including the Amercian government. Saddam had a history of human rights violations and corruption, although compared to other international leaders his transgressions can be considered moderate. For example, in countries such as Rwanda and Sudan far more extreme measures have been taken by leaders, while the international community did little. The Iraq war is based far more upon oil and power then it is freedom. Seemingly, the Bush Administration and their corporate allies saw an opportunity to control the worldââ¬â¢s second largest supply of oil and thus, like any savvy businessman would do, exploited it. shirleyburns69http://www.blogger.com/profile/13016922347267242101noreply@blogger.com0
